Area sports summer camps and more

Sign up now for Brittany Brumbelow volleyball camp

Register now for the Brittany Brumbelow volleyball camp. The camp will be held July 27-30 at Paul Bohan Hornet Gym. The camp is available for incoming freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. The cost is $100 per camper. For more information, contact Brittany Brumbelow at the Joe Clements Field House at (936) 293-2626.



Voluntary cross country practice at Huntsville High

The cross country team at Huntsville High School has already started preparing for the fall season. Workouts are being held Monday through Thursday at HHS, and anyone interested in joining the team is invited to participate. Runners in seventh and eighth grades are welcome as well. Bearkats to host evaluation baseball camp

The Sam Houston State baseball program will host a high school evaluation camp this summer. The camp will be held Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes lunch and a T-shirt. The cost is $125 and is open to all high school-aged students. For more information, e-mail coach Jim Blair at jimblair@shsu.edu.



Hornets start football practice on August 3

Summer workouts for the Huntsville High School football team begin Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. Players need to report to the Joe Clements Field House starting at 8 a.m. on Aug. 3 to pick up equipment. Practice will run from 6-9 p.m. each day. For more information, call coach Mitchell Coey at (936) 293-2646.



Lady Hornets to hold volleyball tryouts on Aug. 3-5

The Lady Hornets volleyball team will hold tryouts Aug. 3-5. The Lady Hornets will have two-a-days each day from 9-11 a.m. and then 12-2 p.m. Those interested in trying out must have physical completed beforehand. Junior golf camps at Raven Nest Golf Club

One more session of junior golf camp is scheduled this summer at Raven Nest Golf Club in Huntsville. Camp session for girls and boys ages 6 to 16 runs Aug. 4-6. Cost is $75 with a 10 percent discount given to families registering more than child. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. each day and class runs from 9-11:30 a.m. Participants will receive a camp T-shirt, sleeve of golf balls, divot tool, certificate of achievement and participation medal. Sign up for Huntsville Hornet Football Camps

Sign up now for the 2009 Huntsville Hornet Football Camp, which will be held July 27-29 for boys in grades seven through nine based on the upcoming school year. Practice sessions run from 8 to 11:45 a.m. at Huntsville High School. Cost is $60 for the first camper and $35 for siblings. Church co-ed softball league starting on July 31

Area churches interested in playing in a Friday night co-ed softball league can contact Tom Wilder at (936) 355-7145. Entry fee is $100 per team. Play begins July 31.



Thursday night scrambles at Raven Nest Golf Club

Raven Nest Golf Club has brought back its evening golf scrambles. Golfers are encouraged to form their own four-person team and sign up for the Thursday night scramble, which will be held July 30. The tournament is a nine-hole scramble with prizes and a hamburger dinner held after play concludes. Cost is $25 per player. Call the Raven Nest pro shop at (936) 438-8588 to register.

Former Seattle Seahawks and University of Texas offensive lineman Bryan Millard has joined the Bearkats staff as a voluntary assistant with the goal of breaking into the coaching ranks down the road.
