The Lady Lions of Alpha Omega Academy had an easy night Tuesday. Led by center Annie Knight, the Lady Lions rolled to a 45-10 win over Brenham Christian Academy.
Knight poured in 14 points for Alpha Omega, which remained undefeated (3-0) in district and improved to 7-3 on the season. Jessica Stem scored nine points, Hannah Lee added eight, while Libby Rogers and Jennifer Chang tossed in four points apiece.
Kirstie Garrison, Suzy Partida and Jasmine Williford each scored two points for the Lady Lions.
“We got to play everybody tonight, and everybody scored,” Lady Lions coach Talara Cox said. “I don’t really like games like this because they make us play sloppy, but we only had 10 turnovers, which is good.”
The Lady Lions, who play at Bellville Faith Academy on Thursday, got off to a fast start Tuesday. Stem, Lee and Chang helped AOA jump out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter, and the Lady Lions kept up the pace in the second period. AOA took a 25-2 lead into the break.
Knight took over in the third quarter, scoring eight straight points to put the Lady Lions on top 33-4. Partida hustled for an offensive rebound and scored, then Knight added another deuce and Stem hit a jumper before the end of the period.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions celebrated a special moment. Williford, who has never played basketball before, made her first bucket, banking in a 10-footer.
“Those were her first two points ever,” Cox said. “We were all very excited for Jasmine.”
Cox said she liked the way her girls played defense Tuesday. Offensively, the Lady Lions were a little off, according to the coach.
“I like for my girls to get in the flow. I feel like we were out of sync a little tonight,” the coach said. “Thursday night, we play Bellville and that’s going to be a fight. That’s going to be a good one.”
