Sam Houston State senior guard Corey Allmond wasnamed the Southland Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Allmond, a native of Oxon Hill, Md., set the Adolph Rupp Arena, Southland Conference and Sam Houston State record swith 11 3-point baskets made in 102-92 loss at No. 4 Kentucky last Thursday.
His 37 points scored against the Wildcats rank as the second-highest single-game scoring total by a Bearkat against an NCAA Division I opponent.
Allmond snapped the old Southland 3-point field goal record of 10 held by Nicholls’ Earnest Porter and Southeastern Louisiana’s Daryl Cohen.
Allmond followed his record-setting performance with 11 more points in a loss to the 2009 Horizon League tournament champion Cleveland State. Cleveland State reached the second round of the NCAA tournament last year after a first-round upset of Wake Forest.
Allmond is the Bearkats’ leading scorer this year, averaging 19.0 points as Sam Houston has rolled up a 2-2 record. For the year, Allmond is 18-of-39 from beyond the arc for a season percentage of .462.
Sam Houston State will play Oral Roberts in Cancun, Mexico, today at 12:30 p.m.
The next home game for the Bearkats will be Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m. against Mid-American Christian.
