Lady Bulldogs use size inside to topple Lady Lions 66-32

NEW WAVERLY — The New Waverly Lady Bulldogs dominated the first quarter Friday against Franklin, outscoring the Lady Lions 18-2 in the period. After holding Franklin to just 11 first-half points, the Lady Bulldogs rode that momentum to a 66-32 victory.

The Lady Lions lacked size in the post, and the Lady Dogs, specifically, senior Didra Jones, seized the opportunity.

“That was one of the best halves I think we have put together all year,” New Waverly head coach Eldridge McAdams said. “We didn’t have many turnovers. We were moving the ball pretty well. We didn’t play selfish.

“Once their coach switched over from a man-to-man to a zone defense, I knew they were going to be in trouble because they didn’t have the size to match up with Didra.”

Didra Jones’ 26 points and 10 boards helped spur No. 16 New Waverly (8-1 in District 26-2A, 18-6 overall) to another victory. The Lady Dogs also got solid production from Destiny Jones, who scored 12 points, and Shanique Smith, who finished with 10.
