Brooks selected to All-SLC squad

Senior guard ranks sixth in scoring, third in assists all-time for SHSU

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston State senior guard Brittany Brooks has been named as a second-team selection on the 2010 All-Southland Conference women’s basketball team.

Brooks led the Bearkats in scoring this season with 15.4 points per game. She scored in double figures in 20 of Sam Houston’s 28 games this year, including 32 points in a triple-overtime victory against Texas State and 29 points in a one-point win over UTSA.

Brooks completed the regular season ranked sixth in all-time Bearkat women’s basketball scoring with 1,166 career points. She stands third in Bearkat career assists (375).

The senior led Sam Houston to its first Southland Conference tournament appearance since 2004 as the Bearkats won six of their last eight games. The 8-8 Southland league record and 12 overall victories this year are the best for SHSU women’s basketball since the 2000 season.

Sam Houston will be the sixth seed at the Southland Conference tournament and will play the No. 3 seed, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, today at 2:30 p.m.
