NEW WAVERLY — The New Waverly Bulldogs continue to go about their business the same way they have all season.
The Dogs made a point to come out with as much intensity as they could. Trinity didn’t have an answer for New Waverly’s press and the top-ranked Bulldogs used that to their advantage. The Dogs kept up the intensity on the offensive end, scoring in a variety of ways.
Before too long, New Waverly, which utilized every player it had, held a 20-point lead in the first quarter. By the end of the night, the Bulldogs crossed the century mark as they rolled past Trinity 101-50 on Tuesday for their 39th straight district victory.
“That’s what we want to try to do. Every night we want to come out and get after it and improve part of our game,” New Waverly head coach Bill Goffney said. “I really thought we improved on our shooting. It was impressive with how we shot the ball.
“Like I’ve said before, we’re coming together at the right time and we’re really clicking on all cylinders before heading into the playoffs.”
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was senior Tyren Watts with 25 points. X’Zavious Harrison added 18 points. Isaiah Gilliam scored 13 points. Josh Durriseau and Jonathan Reece finished with eight points apiece. Arthur Reece, Kyren Watts and Cody James each chipped in six points. Kolten Snoe and Dillian Scott also contributed with five and four points, respectively.
“We’ve got a lot of chemistry right now,” Tyren Watts said. “The more we play as a team, the better we’re becoming. We keep getting better.”
