HUNTSVILLE —
The NCAA is making around 500 standing room only tickets to Sam Houston State’s championship game on Saturday available today at 10 a.m. on NCAA.com.
This could be your last opportunity to purchase tickets, as most of them went pretty early.
The NCAA and Frisco entities made the conscious effort to pre-sale tickets this season, after last year’s championship game featuring Deleware and Northern Washington resulted in what was considered poor attendance numbers.
That wasn’t happening this season.
Pizza Hut Park announced on its website that tickets to the Football Subdivision Championship game would go on sale on Oct. 3, well before it was decided who would play in the game.
The park had no trouble selling the roughly 13,000 tickets it was alloted.
Sam Houston and North Dakota State were each given 4,000 tickets to sale and both schools were sold out just a few days after clinching a spot in the title game.
Sam Houston and North Dakota State announced tickets were sold out on Dec. 19, however, some of the Bearkat tickets had been reserved for students and season ticket holders.
Students were able to purchase tickets at $40 a piece through an email sent by the university after Dec. 19.
Those tickets have since sold out.
Season ticket holders were allowed to purchase four tickets each at $45 per ticket.
There are 650 Sam Houston season ticket holders, according to officials at the athletic department.
Pizza Hut Park seats just over 21,000. There were about 8,000 empty seats at last year’s game, which had the lowest attendance record since 2002.
Sam Houston has always had decent alumni presence in the metroplex and hope to have some sort of homefield advantage against the distant North Dakota State team.
As of midnight, stubhub.com had 248 resale tickets for prices ranging from $75-1500.
