HUNTSVILLE — Three first-place finishes and another placed third.

It’s fair to say that things went pretty well for the Huntsville tennis team at the Magnolia West tournament last Friday.

Huntsville showed what happens with a little bit of teamwork as three of its doubles teams walked away with titles by tournament’s end.

Kyle Thompson and Katrina Culver won the “A” mixed doubles titles after winning their two matches 6-4, 7-6 and then 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.

In “B” mixed doubles, Aaron Brown and Karly Culver didn’t lose a set in their three matches. Brown and Culver rolled through their first-round match 6-4, 6-3. The pair advanced to the finals after winning 6-3, 6-4 and rolled to the tournament championship 6-4, 6-3.

Kaitlyn Vanecek and Sarah Green also finished in first place in “B” girls doubles, with 8-3 and 8-0 victories in the first two rounds before winning in the finals 6-2, 7-6.

In “B” boys doubles, Cody Oliphant and Nathan Inmon lost their second-round match 6-3, 6-2 after winning in the first round 6-1, 6-2. The pair bounced back to win 8-5 for third place.

Sarah Fry and Lexie Prier won their first-round match 6-0, 4-6, but lost their final two matches to place fourth.

After losing a three-set match in the first-round, Stephen Hoff and Ronnie Carter rebounded in their next two matches with an 8-0 and 6-1, 6-1 wins to win the consolation championship.

In “A” singles action, Cody Sanchez and Alina Mahmood bounced back from opening-round losses to win consolation championships.

Roman Torrano and Matt Brown had matches in “B” boys singles. Torrano lost his first match, but bounced back to win in the next round 8-5. Torrano closed with a 2-6, 6-1, 10-2 defeat.

Brown lost his first two matches, but finished with an 8-7 victory.
