In a quarter that took nearly two hours to complete because of a couple of lightning delays, the Bearkats were a little slow getting their offense going, but they've gotten in a groove now.

Sam Houston State finally got on the scoreboard after senior quarterback Blake Joseph ran in for a score on a 9-yard keeper.

Then, just a few minutes later, the Kats capitalized on an interception by defensive lineman Edward Decambre. Running back James Aston capped the drive with an 11-yard score to give SHSU a 14-0 lead.

Defensively, the Kats have done an impressive getting into the backfield and pressuring quarterback Mike Hladik as well as defending in the secondary. After the first quarter of play, St. Joseph's of Indiana has only 48 yards of offense and three first downs to show for it.
