Nearly 20,000 runners finished the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Half Marathon and El Paso 5K in Houston on Sunday.
Teshome Gelana of Ethiopia set a new Chevron Houston Marathon record with a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, 37 seconds. Defending women’s champion, Teyba Erkesso of Ethiopia also set a new record with a time of 2:23:53.
Antonio Vega of Minnesota won the Aramco Half Marathon with a time of 1:01:54 and Shalane Flanagan, a two-time Olympian from Oregon, set a new Aramco Half Marathon with a time of 1:09:41.
There were plenty of Huntsville runners participating in all three races.
Nathan Winkelmann, a multi-sport athlete, led the local runners in the marathon with a time of 3:25:34, improving from his time of 3:39:34 last year.
Suzy Riley of Richards, and mother of four, finished her second Houston Marathon with a time of 3:40:18, qualifying her for the Boston Marathon.
Melvin Neely finished his 12th Houston Marathon.
Jesse Parker, cross country coach at Sam Houston State University, was the fastest local runner in the Aramco Half Marathon with a time of 1:28:52. This was a personal record for Parker.
