Thelma Marie Munden

Thelma Marie Munden was born March 15, 1932, in Crockett to Jim and Bessie Williams. She left earth for her heavenly home on Feb. 6, 2010, in Conroe.

Thelma is survived by daughter, Sharon & Rob Traugott of Katy; son, Mike Munden of Riverside; daughter, Pam and Keith Keenright of Trinity; son, Richard and Marie Munden of Huntsville; sister, Lorene and Johnny Kibby of Riverside; sister, Gloria and Jimmie Oualline of Huntsville; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Joe A. Munden; her parents, Jim and Bessie Williams; her brothers J.L. Williams, Jim Williams Jr., Charles Ray Williams, and sister, Pauline Sanders.

Thelma met Joe while working at Van Pelts Drugstore in Crockett. They were married on Dec. 9, 1950. They spent most of their lives together in Riverside. They both worked for many years at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville.

Thelma was characterized by her selfless love for her family. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was constantly thinking of what she could do for each of them.

Fondly called Nanny, she was just that, a caretaker who strived to make sure all her “children” were safe and well. She had a big family and loved each of them equally and unconditionally. Thelma also loved her Lord and was a long time member of Riverside Baptist Church.

Thelma loved to have fun and she was fun! Her unique little chuckle could make even the sternest one smile. She loved to travel – from weekend trips to Canton to longer vacation trips with family members.

One of her favorite past times was playing 42 with family and friends. She enjoyed decorating her home for Christmas, which won her several awards.

Thelma will be missed by all who were privileged to know and love her.

Thelma’s family will receive friends Monday evening, Feb. 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

A celebration of Thelma’s life will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Reagan Cooksey officiating.

Interment will follow at Riverside Pioneer Cemetery in Riverside.
