Howard Irl Coyle

Howard Irl Coyle died at his home in Huntsville on July 1, 2012.  He was born to Annie Olive Wright and Marion Howard Coyle on May 4, 1926, in Buna, Texas. Irl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Pipkin Coyle.  They were blessed with four daughters, Susan and Larry Krueger of Wharton, Ann and Tommy Parker of Freeport, Pam Coyle of Onalaska, and Karen and Paul Bilsing of Huntsville.  They have 8 grandchildren Kim & Brent Williams, Christy & Porter Keller, William & Monica Parker, Philip Parker, C.J. Parker, Marisa & Chris Carroll, Mack Campbell and Jessica Bilsing.  They have 5 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; Addison, Porter & Ruby Keller, Iris Parker and Madalyn Carroll. Irl is survived by two of his sisters and a brother-in-law, JoEtta Erwin and Lois & Bill Robinette.  Irl also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At  the age of 9 he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Buna. Irl graduated from Buna High School in May, 1943.  He enlisted in the Army on July 21, 1944, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in Okinawa, Japan. He served until October 29, 1946 when he was Honorably Discharged as a Private First Class from Fort Sam Houston, Texas.  He enrolled at Sam Houston State Teachers College, where he met his future wife, Margaret Pipkin.  He received his Bachelors of Science Degree August 1951 and his Masters of Education January 1956.

Irl and Margaret were married on May 26, 1950 at First Baptist Church, Huntsville, Texas.  They moved to Bay City, Texas in 1952, where they both had their first teaching position.  After working in various school districts in the east Texas area, they returned to Huntsville in 1977. Margaret was with Huntsville I.S.D. and Irl with Windham School District until retiring in 1988.  He continued substitute teaching for many years with Windham before completely retiring in the mid-90's.

Irl fought a long battle with "Dementia with Lewy Bodies" with dignity and grace.  Even while living with DLB he never met a stranger, and kept his sense of humor until the end.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Annie Coyle, his beloved twin sister, Myrl Franzke and his brother and best friend, Milton "Bubba" Coyle.

Funeral services for Mr. Coyle will be held Friday, July 6, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Huntsville, Texas, with Dr. Weygandt officiating.  Interment to follow at 3:30 p.m., in Brooke Cemetery, Huntsville.  Mr. Coyle will lie in state Thursday, July 5, 2012, with family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
