Olive Ruth Nabors, 87, passed away in Bryan on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, after suffering a stroke on Oct. 3, 2009.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan. Services are set for 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at Hillier Funeral Home.
Olive Ruth was born in Bryan on Dec. 7, 1921, to Jesse Earnest and Erma Jane Cloud Hensarling. She was a descendant of pioneer families in the early 1850s in Brazos County. Olive Ruth was the valedictorian of the first graduating class at the present Stephen F. Austin School building in Bryan. She attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
At the age of 12, Olive Ruth joined the Freewill Baptist Church of Bryan. Later after marrying, she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Eunice Bible Class.
Olive Ruth served two terms as president of the Board of the Girls Club of Brazos County. She served as the Chaplain for the William Scott Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution.
Olive Ruth married Cecil Thomas Nabors on Nov. 23, 1945, while they were both employed by the Bryan School District. They made their home in Bryan, except for the 10-year period that they lived in Huntsville, where Cecil taught at Sam Houston State University.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Cecil Thomas Nabors; parents, Erma Cloud and Jesse Earnest Hensarling; and sister, Jessie Myrtle Cole.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Jane and Glenn Phillips of Kingwood; and Kay Fountain of Huntsville; brother and sister-in-law, Jesse Earnest and Elizabeth Hensarling of Allen; grandchildren, Sara Jane Phillips, Katherine Amanda Phillips Williams and husband Ryan, Nancy Jane Fountain Holcomb and husband Guy, Reginald Trevor Fountain and wife Teneile, Nathaniel Christopher Fountain and wife Carrie, Thomas Jereld Fountain, and Megan Kay Fountain Martinez and husband Jaime; great-grandchildren, Sydney Kay Fountain, Grayson Cecil Holcomb, Luke Patrick Fountain and Noe Thomas Martinez; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
