Robert Nixon Sr.

Robert Nixon, 77, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Woodlake Nursing Home in Clute.

He was born March 25 in Walker County.

Robert’s great love was gardening. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, hunting and anything outdoors. He enjoyed his coffee and smokes on the back patio with close friends and staff. Robert was a hard worker and a helper to those in need. He was a strong, smart and independent man that was loved by many.

He is survived by his children, Robert Nixon Jr. of Arlington, Joyce Goetz of Warren, Mich., Benita Atkins of Lake Jackson, Marietta Birdwell of Freeport, Gerald Nixon of Germany and their spouses; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Gatsy Leonard, Sue Stone, Robbie DeSaulnaries and Gordon Neal Nixon Sr.; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and loved ones.

His was preceded in death by his parents, T.C. and Eura Nixon, Frances Drury Nixon, five brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, with the funeral services to follow at 3 p.m. at Friends Community Church of Angleton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the Farris Cemetery in Huntsville.

Honorary pallbearers are Gordon Neal Nixon, Mike Bruce, Howard Atkins Jr., Jimmy Birdwell, Henry Goetz and Howard Atkins III.
