Eddie Merl Lee Hightower

HUNTSVILLE — Mrs. Eddie Merl Lee Hightower passed away on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, in Huntsville at the age of 81 years old. She was born on July 8, 1929, in Huntsville to Edward and Ruth Thomas. It was in Huntsville that she lived, grew and was educated. She was a faithful member of Pine Bluff M.B. Church, where she served in many capacities.

Mrs. Hightower was united in marriage to Robert Hightower Sr. on June 9, 1956. To this union 10 children were born.

Mrs. Hightower was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 15 siblings and two grandchildren.  

She leaves to mourn her passing four sons: Robert L. (Shirley) Hightower Jr., the Rev. Clenard L. (Wilma) Hightower, Glend Otis Hightower and the Rev. Moses Hightower; six daughters: Bernadine Chaple, Johnnie Ann (Lonnie) Ray, Velva Fisher, Deneice  L. (Bruce) Davis, Doris J. (Ulyesses) Morris and Minnie R. (Willie) Jennings; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; a devoted niece: Margaret Laster; two devoted nephews: Lewis E. Duckett and Billy C. Thomas; one adopted son: Edmond Hagans; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hightower will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Pine Bluff Baptist Church. Burial will immediately follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Huntsville. Pastor Moses Hightower will preside over the services. There will be a public viewing at the Cox Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
