HUNTSVILLE — Funeral services for Sister Lucy Mae Brown will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Unity of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, with the Rev. Obie Rolling Jr. officiating.
On May 19, 1925, a lovely baby girl was born to Jasper Mallard and Jell Peterson Mallard in Walker County. The proud parents named her Lucy Mae. She attended public school in Dodge. Lucy was married to Mr. Calvin Brown, who preceded her in death.
At an early age, she confessed to Christ and united with St. Mary Baptist Church in Dodge. After moving from Dodge to Huntsville, Lucy visited many churches and chose to unite with Unity of Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Obie Rolling Jr., where she remained a faithful member until the day that God called her home. She was active in Sunday school, Bible study, and mission. Lucy loved music, and attended many gospel concerts and programs. She also loved to hear the gospel preached.
For many years Lucy was employed by Sam Houston State University as a pastry cook. In December 1978, she was recognized as employee of the month. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a loving person and expressed her love by sharing and giving to others. She often visited the sick and always wanted to make sure they had plenty of food to eat.
Left to cherish many precious memories are her beloved son, Lee James Mallard Thomas; two grandsons, Kalvin N. Randall and Michael L. Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Kalvin Randall Jr. and Ashley M. Randall; three nephews, Wendell Smith, Tron Murray and Warren Murray; one niece, Trisha; great-nieces, Chloe Woods and Gengie D. Woods; sister-in-law, Ashley Ann Cooper; two nieces-in-law, Jackie and Joyce; devoted friends, Shirley Rolling, Shirley Gamble, Rebecca Byrd and Katherine Kilgore.
