Lyndsay Graves Phillips Sr. of Elkins Lake passed away Feb. 5, 2010.
He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Stephenville to Lindsey Wylie Phillips and Ruth Graves Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Kathleen of 62 years, son Lyndsay Graves Phillips Jr. and granddaughters Erin Kathleen Phillips and Elyse Jane Phillips.
Lyndsay attended Tarleton State College before attending and graduating from Texas A&M; University in 1938. He was active in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He completed 20 years of military service through the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
After a 40-year career with Gulf Oil Corporation he and wife Kathleen retired to Elkins Lake. He was an active golfer and he and Kathleen were polling judges for state and local elections for a number of years at Elkins Lake. He was also a member of the Municipal Utility District Board and represented Elkins Lake at city hall meetings. He was an Eagle Scout and active in the Boy Scouts of America.
He was a life long supporter of Texas A&M; University and the Former Students Association of Texas A&M; University.
Lyndsay is preceded in death by his parents and twin brother Wylie Roberts Phillips. He was an honorable and loving man, husband and father.
He will be greatly missed by friends and family.
