HUNTSVILLE —
It turns out that Ricky Tullos is not going to lead the New Waverly football team after all.
All set for his first day of football practice with the Bulldogs, Tullos, who was hired late last week to replace former head coach Ken Craig, reported to New Waverly Superintendent Clay Webb on Monday morning that he would be unable to take the position.
Livingston ISD did not release Tullos from his contract, head football coach and athletic director Randy Rowe confirmed Monday afternoon.
Tommy Bohannon, an assistant football coach for the past three seasons under Craig, will take over as the Bulldogs’ head coach on an interim basis.
“Tommy Bohannon will be our head coach on an interim basis throughout the season,” Webb said Monday afternoon. “After the season, we will re-evaluate if we need a new head coach or not. We think Tommy will do a good job.
“We needed a head coach and Tommy graciously stepped up.”
The New Waverly athletic director position will remain vacant until the New Waverly board of trustees can find a suitable replacement.
“We’ll repost the job. The board will revisit the issue at a future meeting,” Webb added.
Football practice today is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
