The Walker County Community Planning Group will host a countywide public meeting on Sept. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Walker County Storm Shelter to gain input and discuss revisions to Walker County’s Community Plan.
Created in 2009, the community plan is a constantly-evolving document outlining current issues faces Walker County’s criminal justice agencies, as well as possible solutions to those issues. The plan is submitted annually to the Office of the Governor in order to provide eligibility to the county for state criminal justice grants.
“It is a liveable documents, which means we need to visit it at least once a year,” said Walker County Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator David Anderson. “What we want to do is identify any gaps that might be in our services regarding criminal justice.”
Anderson said additional concerns the county plans to address in the updated version of the plan include medical services, law enforcement services and emergency operations center services.
Concerned citizens, non-profit service providers, government officials and officials from school districts and other local groups are all encouraged to attend the meeting.
“I want them to come with a heart to help the community,” Anderson said. “We need a cross section. We want to end up getting a broad spectrum. Someone may see a problem that we have not identified that we could help them get taken care of.”
