Woman indicted for intoxicated assault

HUNTSVILLE —

A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted a Huntsville Memorial Hospital employee who is accused of injuring a sheriff’s deputy during a drunken driving accident in April.
Calli Dretke, 26, of Montgomery was indicted Aug. 14 for intoxicated assault causing seriously bodily injury to a peace officer, which is a second-degree felony. If convicted of the offense, she faces two to 20 years in prison.
“The grand jury indictment clears the way to go to trial,” Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam said Tuesday. “We are ready to present the facts of the case.”
Dretke was arrested and charged with intoxicated assault on a peace officer in the early hours of April 22 after her Toyota SUV allegedly collided with two Montgomery County patrol cars and a blood alcohol testing van on Research Forest Road in The Woodlands. Officers were involved in restraining the suspect in another DWI incident at the time.
A Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy suffered a broken leg when he was struck on impact. The deputy has undergone two surgeries and has still not returned to work.
A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman said Dretke failed field sobriety tests at the scene and that tests showed her blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
Dretke, who was released on $25,000 bond following her arrest, had her bond revoked July 13 by Judge Kathleen Hamilton of the 359th District Court in Montgomery County after Dretke submitted two diluted court-ordered urine samples. She was rearrested and spent the weekend in the Montgomery County Jail before having her bond reinstated.
Dretke is set to be arraigned Sept. 5.
