HUNTSVILLE —
Two Dallas teenagers were killed Wednesday on Interstate 45 just five miles north of Huntsville in an accident involving an 18-wheeler, DPS officials said.
At about 1:50 p.m., Alessandra Alexandrou,17, was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus with her 18-year-old boyfriend Daniel Thomas Carey riding as a passenger when Alexandrou veered from her northbound lane into the southbound lane, partially overturning her car. An oncoming 18-wheeler, driven by Andrew Mecke of South Carolina, collided with the Ford, according to the DPS accident report.
Both Alexandrou and Carey — who attended Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas — were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mark Holt. Their bodies were immediately taken to Huntsville Funeral Home.
Mecke was listed in good condition and was treated for lacerations at Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
According to Carey’s Facebook page, he graduated from Bishop Lynch this year and planned to attend Baylor University in the fall.
