A Houston man was arrested and charged with interference with child custody after allegedly taking his 8-year-old son from the Huntsville area earlier this week.
Todd Jackson, 32, was arrested late Monday by Houston police coordinating with Huntsville Police after investigators discovered that he had taken his non-custodial son from Huntsville.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday, HPD detectives received reports that an 8-year-old black male was missing from a residence in the 200 block of Avenue M.
Sgt. Ken Foulch and Detectives Marvin Hyvl and G. P. Shearer set in motion an investigation into the missing person, and obtained information that the child had possibly been taken by his father, who is currently limited to supervised visits only with his son.
After family members were able to call the child directly on a cellular phone, detectives began tracking the phone signal to a Houston neighborhood, Barnes said.
Foulch said after determining the location of the child, he was able to speak directly with Jackson and convince him to visit his mother’s home in Houston, were Houston police were waiting.
Jackson was arrested and the child was returned to the custody of his mother.
“It was an excellent use of technology by our guys to get a location of the child,” HPD Lt. Jim Barnes said, “and it was an excellent of verbal communication by Sgt. Foulch to get the child returned.”
