HUNTSVILLE —
Iowa State Police on Friday apprehended Jerwoody “Jared” Moler, 27, the suspect in the Labor Day weekend murder of Huntsville High School student K’Lynn Sherrie Kohr.
When arrested, Moler was in the stolen Ford Explorer he was last seen driving. Iowa police arrested Moler at 4:45 p.m. Central Daylight Time Friday, said Huntsville Police Lt. Jim Barnes.
Barnes would not comment on how or where Iowa police caught Moler but confirmed that he was in Iowa when apprehended. Earlier this week witnesses reported seeing Moler attempting to pawn stolen lawn furniture in Dallas.
Kohr, 17, was stabbed to death between Saturday night and Monday morning in a mobile home on Nan Way in south Huntsville. Her body was discovered at about 3 p.m. Monday.
Huntsville police said they were relieved that Moler was in custody and grateful for the assistance of other law enforcement agencies.
“It’s awesome,” Barnes said. “I think it was a combined effort of multiple law enforcement agencies throughout the country who caught this guy, and now we just have to get him prosecuted.”
HPD issued a murder warrant for Moler on Wednesday after obtaining evidence that placed him at the scene of Kohr’s slaying. Investigators have released only a few details of their case against him.
Moler, who was paroled from the Ferguson Unit in Midway last June, was serving a three-year sentence for theft of property out of Gregg County and previously had been convicted of burglary, assault and escape out of Gray and Ochiltree counties, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
