Veteran police officer enters Precinct 3 JP race

Veteran police officer and local cattleman Mark Holt has announced that he will run in the March 2 Republican Primary for Walker County Precinct 3 justice of the peace position being vacated by Judge Lloyd Roark.

Holt, 47, has been in public service for most of his adult life, serving in the military as a sergeant and in law enforcement, and currently is a sergeant in the Conroe Police Department.

In addition to having completed nearly 3,000 hours of training through the Texas Com-mission on Law En-forcement, he holds a Master Peace Officer Li-cense and graduated from Fort Huachuca, Ariz., U.S. Army Intel-ligence Training.

“Criminal justice has always been a part of my adult life

and I’ve been interested in serving as justice of the peace for some time now,” Holt said. “I understand and believe that the law is not always black and white and must always be applied fairly by its spirit. I will conduct my office accordingly, just as I have my career.”

In addition to being a decorated police sergeant, Holt continues to raise horses and cattle on his ranch near Riverside with his wife, Debbie, and their young son.

“As a self-employed rancher, a D.A.R.E. instructor working with youth, and as a police officer, I understand the necessity of having a strong work ethic, personal character and of conducting the business of the office of justice of the peace with integrity,” he said. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve the citizens of Precinct 3 as their justice of the peace.”
