With the Christmas season officially beginning today, The Huntsville Item’s Circulation Department launches its sixth annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive.
Walker County residents can bring their donated food, toys and gift cards to The Item between today and Dec. 18.
“On Christmas Day, we will print a special thank you page with all the names of people who have donated,” said Polly Johnson, circulation manager.
Johnson said 300 families benefited from the 2008 holiday drive.
Items donated were given to the Huntsville Independent School District Social Services Department at Mance Park Middle School, which distributed the items to the families in need.
Johnson said the 2009 drive is being started earlier than last year because it will end a week earlier than last year.
