Police seeking leads in robbery

Huntsville police are seeking leads in their investigation into two armed robberies in Huntsville on Tuesday night that are believed to be potentially connected.

Just before 8:30 p.m., three unknown black males entered the Cracker Barrel convenience store at the intersection of state Highway 30 and Fish Hatchery Road.

All three had their faces obscured by masks, and one carried a pistol. They demanded money from the clerk, and left moments later with an undetermined amount of cash and the cassette from the store’s video surveillance recorder.

Just over two hours later, at 10:42 p.m., three unknown black males entered a residence at Fair Winds Mobile Home Park on Highway 30. Again, one of the suspects carried a pistol, and all wore masks.

The three men tied up the adult female and two children in the residence while they searched the home, eventually leaving with a safe.

According to Capt. Wes Altom of the HPD, while the motive in the convenience store robbery is not certain, it is believed that the residence was not chosen randomly.

“It appears that this residence was specifically targeted,” Altom said. “They had a pretty good idea of where they were going. We’re not sure why yet.”

Detective Roy Moore was called to the scenes of both crimes to collect evidence and interview victims.

Moore said anyone with information on either incident is urged to contact him at the Huntsville Police Department at (936) 291-5480 or Walker County Crime Stoppers at (936) 294-9494.
