A Huntsville Police Department investigation into a series of burglaries at a local apartment complex led to the arrest of the complex’s maintenance man Friday morning.
Thomas Henry Baker Jr., 50, was arrested just after 10:30 a.m. and charged with burglary of a residence after he confessed to several burglaries of cash from two units at Woodhollow Apartments in Huntsville, where he was employed as a maintenance worker.
Detective Marvin Hyvl, who was assigned the case, said the burglaries began occurring approximately one month ago, and consisting of only cash burglary.
Interviews with the victims, as well as the fact that no forced entry was detected at either residence, pointed to Baker as a suspect.
Hyvl traveled to the apartment complex on Friday morning and confronted Baker. After consenting to be interview by Hyvl, Baker confessed to the crimes, citing a need for additional money as the motive.
Baker was immediately transported to the Walker County Jail and booked on burglary charges.
Hyvl said the management of the apartment complex cooperated fully in the investigation, and terminated Baker immediately upon learning of his arrest.
