The New Waverly Public Library will hold its chief fundraiser today complete with a spaghetti lunch, talent show, auction and cash drawing.
The library’s fundraiser will be held at New Waverly Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“This is major for us,” New Waverly Library board president Sue Smith said. “We have a budget of $61,000. The city supports us for $20,000 and we get $25,000 from the school district. After that, we’re on our own. We’re really depending on the community to help us out.
“We’ve got a nice facility and in order to keep it running, we need some funds.”
Tickets for ages 8 and under will be $4, while those over the age of 8 will have to pay $8.
A spaghetti lunch will be served at 11 a.m. and will be followed by a talent show at noon.
“We’ve got so many coming in to be part of the talent show. There’s numerous acts that students from New Waverly and Willis,” board secretary Sue Hardy said. “There’s a student from Willis that will do facepainting. We’ll also have a country store and a bake shop.”
Following the talent show, there’ll be a silent and live auction, in which numerous items will be available to be bid on.
“There are so many things available,” Smith said. “We’ll have some metalwork and artwork. Mayor Dan Underwood donated a cattle feeder for us. One of our organizers for this fundraiser, David Vela, who is a Texas State Fair canning champion, will have all kinds of canned goodies.
“We’ll have some other donated items, like restaurant gift certificates. There’s going to be a lot for everyone.”
There will also be a raffle. Tickets are $1 each or can be bought in a bundle of seven for $5. The drawing will be held at the end of the fundraiser and participants do not have to be present to win.
“We’ll also have the library open so people can see what their money is going toward,” Smith added. “We’ve gotten a lot of support from the community. We’re looking forward to getting more support so we can continue to serve New Waverly and those that visit the library.”
