Chelsea Faye Blumrick, a graduate of Sam Houston State University, is the City of Huntsville’s new Main Street Coordinator.
She officially started in the Main Street office Oct. 26.
Blumrick replaced Harold Hutcheson, who resigned in September to accept the position of Convention and Visitors Bureau manager with the City of Conroe.
Hutcheson has served as Main Street manager since 2004.
Blumrick earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with four majors in marketing, management, international business and economics and minor in psychology.
While at SHSU Blumrick was a member of Golden Key International Honor Society, the 2007 homecoming committee, women’s lacrosse team and served as a two-term president of Sigma Phi Lambda Christian sorority.
As a student, Blumrick managed projects with the Small Business Development Center in conjunction with Ironworks Gym and Gatti’s Pizza.
“Being able to work hands on with local business owners was an invaluable experience and it was very rewarding,” she said.
After graduation Blumrick was involved in public relations and event coordination while interning at the Houston Pavilions, a downtown retail, dining and entertainment venue. C
She said that “being a part of a large downtown project geared towards revitalizing the area was remarkable and I feel my experience there will translate easily into Huntsville’s Main Street Program.”
Blumrick said her involvement with Houston Downtown Alliance and Houston Young People for the Arts will also be a valuable resource while working with Huntsville’s Downtown Business Alliance.
Blumrick also interned for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in their Team in Training department.
“Working for the Society was very important to me because I had recently lost my 6-year-old cousin Colby to peripheral T-cell lymphoma,” she said. “Being an active part of a non-profit organization is a very endearing and humbling experience.”
Blumrick served as the department’s Web marketing strategist and is currently a fundraising volunteer as a Team in Training marathon participant.
Kimm Thomas, director of Tourism and Cultural Arts, said “she believes that Chelsea will bring a new prospective to the Main Street Program.”
