Farris seeking re-election

Janie Hartnett Farris is seeking re-election as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 for Walker County in the upcoming 2010 Republican Primary. This will be Farris’ fourth term since taking office in 1999.

Farris is a lifelong resident of Walker County. She and her husband of 32 years, Alton Farris Jr., have two daughters, Sara Beth and Katelyn. She is currently a member of the University Heights Baptist Church, Pregnancy Care Center Board of Directors, Walker County Republican Women and the Walker County Fair Association.

Justices of the Peace have seen many changes in the past years, including an increase in their civil jurisdiction, which in turn has led to an increase in the number of cases filed in their courts. Changes in legislation have also led to an increase in responsibilities and educational needs on the part of the Justices of the Peace and their court staff.

Farris has continued her educational training through the Texas Justice Court Training Center in order that she and her staff can assist court customers with current information.

Farris said that if re-elected she will continue to serve the residents of Precinct 1 and Walker County with the same high ethical standards and dedication that she has shown since first taking office.

“Serving as Justice of the Peace in Walker County has been a privilege,” she said. “This position is more than just a job; it is a commitment to the community; one that I take seriously and try to do with great compassion and discernment.”
