Longtime resident and local businesswoman Kari French announced her candidacy for Walker County Clerk today.
French will seek the Republican nomination in the 2010 Republican Primary.
The primary will be held March 2.
French believes her experience in business, public relations, administration and budgeting are valuable qualifications that have prepared her for public office.
“I’m running for county clerk because owning and operating a business that is customer service-oriented and technology driven has provided me experience and proven decision making abilities,” French said. “I want to put these qualities to work for the citizens of Walker County.
“With 16 years of experience, I am well qualified for the duties of county clerk. This validates my desire for an ethical and productive government and to be a part of the future growth and change of Walker County.”
French says her campaign is based on customer service, compliance, employee education, efficiency, budget analysis and administration towards growth and future planning.
“The county clerk position requires knowledge of many state laws and statues.
The residents and the commercial and legal communities require an efficient and streamlined county clerk’s office,” French said.
While ensuring a dedicated work ethic, French says research, planning, training and technological advances are critical as the work load continues to increase.
“A more user-friendly, convenient and compliant office would emerge,” she said. “I look forward to and am ready for the commitment.”
Per the Texas Association of Counties, The Office of County clerk is established by the Texas Constitution, whose duties, perquisites and fees of office are prescribed by the Legislature.
The majority of the duties pertain to the receipt, custody and issuance of a wide array of documents, instruments, certificates, licenses and other official papers in addition to the clerk’s duties to the county courts at law.
French is a graduate of Huntsville High School and holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Agribusiness from Sam Houston State University.
She is the current elected president of the Walker County Republican Women’s Club, a charter member serving for eight years as president of the Huntsville Firefighters Auxiliary and Sparky the Fire Dog.

For the past three years, French has served on the Early Election Ballot Board for Walker County. She is a Lifetime Member of the Walker County Fair Association and supports the Walker County 4-H program along with supporting other local organizations.
