City to host pumpkin carving extravaganza

The City of Huntsville will host its first annual Pumpkin Carving Extravaganza today from 4-7 p.m. at Fire Station No. 2 on Sam Houston Avenue.

The event was originally scheduled to be held at Kate Barr Ross Park, but was moved by the city Recreation Services Department due to a strong chance of rain today.

According to Recreation Services Coordinator Kim Barnes, the event will be informal and open to all ages, and all materials will be provided free of.

“We provide all the materials,” Barnes said. “We’ve got carving kits. We have transfer paper with all the designs or they can just free design, and they’ll get to take them home with them.”

Following clean up from the pumpkin carving the public is invited to a free screening of the film “Practical Magic,” starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock.

Snacks and drinks will be provided, and a drawing will be held for a door prize.

Barnes said residents are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes during both events.

“We’re wanting them to dress up,” Barnes said. They don’t have to, but we’re hoping they do. We’ll be dressing up.”
