Two tons of sugar stolen from shop

When the owners of Donut Wheel donut shop on Sam Houston Avenue arrived to open their shop on Sunday morning, they found an odd scene: piles and trails of powdered sugar scattered around their building.

After investigating, they found more than two tons of bagged powdered sugar missing from their storage area.

According to Detective Marvin Hyvl of the Huntsville Police Department, who is investigating the case, the burglary occurred some time between 6 p.m. Saturday evening and just before 9 a.m. Sunday when the burglary was discovered.

The burglary was the third at Donut Wheel since May.

The first, on May 17, resulted in the theft of shortening and flour. The second, on July 7th, resulted in the theft of shortening, yeast and an air conditioning unit.

However, neither was on the scale of Sunday’s burglary.

Hyvl said the value of the sugar was estimated at just over $1,400.

The suspect or suspects apparently entered the storage facility through a gap where the previously stole air conditioning unit was once housed.

Hyvl said a small amount of powdered sugar in the parking lot suggested the suspects exited via Sam Houston Avenue, turning north.

Anyone with any information on the crime is urged to contact Hyvl at the HPD at (936) 291-5480 or to contact Walker County Crime Stoppers at (936) 294-9494.

All Crime Stoppers calls are confidential and any information leading to an arrest could be eligible for a reward.
