HUNTSVILLE —
The Huntsville Main Street Office is gearing up for its annual Scare on the Square Halloween event, and is seeking local participants to fill booth space and plan activities for area children.
This year’s Scare on the Square will be held Oct. 30 from 5:30-8 p.m. in the downtown square. As in previous years, the free event will offer safe family fun in the form of treats, games and other activities.
According to Main Street Coordinator Kim McAuliffe, organizers of the event are seeking local groups to fill free booth space for the event and sponsor various fair-themed activities for children.
“Each year, children of all ages discover delightful treats at the Scare on the Square, and the 2010 event promises to be one of the best yet,” McAuliffe said. “Right now, we’re trying to get a list together of community organizations that will sponsor activity booths. In the past, local churches, businesses and a number of Sam Houston State University groups have set up activities like bone-yard bowling, bobbing for apples and other fair-like activities.
“We really appreciated their participation, and we hope to see the same level of enthusiasm at this year’s event.”
Among the activities already planned for the 2010 Scare on the Square are moonwalks, face painting, bean bag tosses and Halloween-themed arts and crafts, as well as a costume contest featuring prizes for the winners.
“We just want to make it even bigger that it was before so that people will we want to spend time here,” McAuliffe said. “It’s a safe environment, geared toward families, and it’s always a lot of fun.”
