HUNTSVILLE —
Valentines can tango the night away Tuesday in a rare opportunity to learn from masters of the dance.
Sergei Tumas and Daniela Arcuri will perform a tango at the Sam Houston State University Performing Arts Center. A buffet reception will start at 6:30 p.m. with the performance at 7:30. Tickets are $20 per person.
Linda Pease, cultural services coordinator for the city, said the event offers a unique evening in a beautiful setting.
“They do a kind of modern tango,” Pease said. “I’m looking forward to meeting them. We’re very pleased to have them.”
Tumas and Arcuri will perform Tango Milonguero, a style of tango in which the dancers’ posture keeps their torsos in constant contact.
The pair will host workshops for children and adults, and those in attendance for the Valentine’s Day show will have a chance to show off what they’ve learned. For the $20 ticket price, attendees will have dinner and a show that features not only tango masters, but also three Ballet Folklorico groups and a steel drum band from SHSU.
“I think it’s going to be very romantic,” Pease said. “There will be Latin foods, but the desserts will concentrate on Valentine's Day.”
The Valentine Tango performance is sponsored by the Wynne Home Arts Center and SHSU. Tickets are available at the Wynne Home or by calling (936) 294-2339. They also can be purchased online at tickets@shsu.edu.
