Turnout low for city, school elections

Voter turnout in Saturday’s five city and school elections in Walker County was below 10 percent overall.

There were 20 precincts counted countywide with 2,742 ballots cast in Huntsville and New Waverly city and school elections and the city election in Riverside.

There were 29,630 registered voters for the May 9 election, resulting in a voter turnout of 9.25 percent.

In the Riverside City Council election, four candidates were seeking three positions. There were 280 registered voters with 55 ballots cast, showing a voter turnout of 5.09 percent.

In the New Waverly Independent School District board of trustees election, there were 2,931 registered voters.

Of that total, 74 ballots were cast in Precinct 404, resulting in a voter turnout of 2.52 percent.

In Precinct 404 where voting was held in New Waverly city and school elections, there were 640 registered voters with 107 ballots cast for a percentage of 16.72.

The number of registered voters, ballots cast and voter turnout by precinct in the joint Huntsville City Council and HISD trustees elections are:

• Precinct 101 — 1,047, 86, 8.21 percent.

• Precinct 102 — 3,059, 515, 16.84 percent.

• Precinct 103 — 1,490, 38, 2.55 percent.

• Precinct 104 — 1,674, 50, 2.99 percent.

• Precinct 201 — 2,709, 330, 12.18 percent.

• Precinct 203 — 98, 0.

• Precinct 204 — 2,115, 70, 3.31 percent.

• Precinct 205 — 2,263, 769, 33.98 percent.

• Precinct 206 — 700, 152, 21.71 percent.

• Precinct 301 — 2,248, 264, 11.74 percent.

• Precinct 302 — 375, 20, 5.33 percent.

• Precinct 303 — 631, 3, 0.48 percent.

• Precinct 304 — 3,193, 48, 1.50 percent.

• Precinct 401 — 2,592, 119, 4.59 percent.

• Precinct 402 — 390, 13, 3.33 percent.

• Precinct 403 — 915, 27, 2.95 percent.

• Precinct 404 — 280, 2, 0.71 percent.
