The Huntsville Community Theater will hold two nights of auditions for two Texas comedies, “Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got the Will?” and “Greater Tuna,” on March 30 and 31.
The auditions will be held from 5-8 p.m. each night at the Old Town Theatre, and a full cast list will be released following the second night of auditions.
According to Robbie Bardwell, director of both productions, the auditions will consist of cold readings from each of the plays.
“We are looking for men and women of varying ages to be part of ‘Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got the Will?’ and ‘Greater Tuna,’” Bardwell said. “While ‘Greater Tuna’ features an all-male cast, ‘Daddy’s Dyin’’ has parts available for both men and women of all different ages.
“I’m really hoping we get a lot more people than usual at these auditions, because we’ve got some fun roles to fill that I think actors of any age with any experience level would enjoy.”
No call-backs will be held following the two sets of auditions, Bardwell said.
“These auditions will be relaxed and will be lots of fun,” Bardwell said. “New talent is definitely welcome and those interested in auditioning can show up at any time. After the second night of auditions, I should be releasing the full cast lists for both productions.”
Bardwell said “Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got the Will?” and “Greater Tuna” are both touching and hilarious comedies set in small Texas towns.
Family values, friendship and small-town ethics are just a few of the ideas included in the productions, and Bardwell said Huntsville audiences are guaranteed to connect with the characters.
“Both of these productions were chosen because I believe Huntsville audiences will really enjoy them,” Bardwell said. “‘Daddy’s Dying’ will open in middle of May, and ‘Greater Tuna’ should open during the first week of June.”
