In an effort to provide a positive outlook on the future of economic development, about 75 residents decided to form Huntsville First.
“Huntsville First was conceived and formed by residents who are concerned with getting information and the truth out to the public related to economic development issues,” said Huntsville First spokesperson Nancy Franklin during a Tuesday afternoon press conference.
Franklin said Huntsville First will be a voice of reason and truth regarding a wide variety of important issues facing the city.
“If the residents of Huntsville have questions about issues or programs, we welcome the opportunity to investigate and provide answers based on fact,” Franklin said.
Members of the group first banded together as a way to combat the negativity they felt was constantly being offered in opposition to economic development.
“We want to see the future of the city be a positive thing,” Franklin said. “Many of us realize that without appropriate economic development we’re not going to have growth and we’re not going to have the relief the taxpayers and property owners might expect. We need to grow the city.”
Huntsville First Treasurer Lawrence Franklin said they aren’t necessarily out to only change minds but to help those who haven’t made their mind up.
“Some people, you’re not going to change their mind,” Lawrence Franklin said. “But some people have told us, ‘I don’t understand this.’”
