Republican candidate for state comptroller and current Agricultural Commissioner Susan Combs made a public appearance at Margaritas Mexican Restaurant on Thursday to address her plans for Walker County.
“The county has taxpayers,” Combs said. “I know they want to be assured that their tax dollars are being taken care of. The comptroller’s office wants to provide better economic information to attract and keep jobs in the county.
“Huntsville is growing and wants opportunities for economic development.”
Combs believes her election to the office of comptroller will have a positive impact on the Huntsville community.
“The community wants to know that the data that comes through our offices are going to be fair,” said Combs, “The kids here are very well educated and the taxpayers want to know the money invested into the school district is going to come back at a better rate of return.”
Some of Comb’s accomplishments include that she was the first woman to ever be elected Texas Agriculture Commissioner. She oversees the $2 billion state agency budget and she created or retained 6,000 jobs through economic development. She is a former prosecutor for Dallas County and she also helped rewrite the juvenile justice code as a member of the Texas House of Representatives. She received the Legislative Crime Fighter of the Year award in 1993 and she was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in 2004.
Walker County is the one of many stops for Combs throughout Texas.
“It shows the importance of Walker County and it shows that our issues are important,” said Russell Martinez, the county Republican Party chair, “It’s nice that Susan Combs acknowledges the issues and concerns of the county.”
