Sam Houston State University’s Allison Bray was crowned Miss Rodeo Texas Teen 2006 last week in San Antonio.
After winning the pageant on June 23, Bray, 18, said it was a great honor to be named Miss Rodeo Texas Teen and she was only able to do it with a lot of hard work.
“Hearing my name Friday night as Miss Rodeo Texas Teen was something I had been waiting to hear for several years,” she said. “This was a goal that I have had since I saw the crown on Tanya Harvey’s hat at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2000 and I finally achieved that goal. After competing for several years I have come to realize that anything is possible as long as you put more effort than you think you possibly have and give it your absolute best.”
Bray, who is from Fulshear, is involved in many activities at SHSU and is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association in which she actively runs barrels. She is also a group leader in Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship and is an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America.
In the sport of rodeo, Bray is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, National Cutting Horse Association, American Cutting Horse Association, American Miniature Horse Association, Greater Houston Miniature Horse Club and the Texas Youth Rodeo Association. She also competes in rodeo queen pageants, shows cutting horses, runs barrels and does breakaway roping and team roping.
Bray has won a number of awards in the past, such as 2005 Miss Rodeo Orange County, 2004 Miss Texas High School Rodeo, Miss Rodeo Austin, Miss Rodeo Sandhills Teen, 2003 Miss Rodeo Tyler County, 2004 Miss NHRSA second runner-up, four-year TSHRA State Qualifier Girls and two-year THRSA State Qualifier Queen Contest.
As Miss Rodeo Texas Teen, Bray will be representing Texas in numerous rodeos and community events throughout Texas and other states.
Bray said she appreciated the support of everyone who has helped her out, especially her parents, Fred and Judith.
“I could not have done this without the support of my family as they have stood beside me, helped me, and given me their time to do what I wanted to do,” she said.
