Workshop to teach cattle operators about tax credits

HUNTSVILLE — Cattle owners in Walker County and surrounding counties will have the opportunity to learn about tax credits still available top producers of breeding stock during a Beef Cattle Taxation, Marketing & Health Workshop Friday.

The workshop will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Walker County Veterans Conference Center or storm shelter at 455 State Highway 75 North.

Reggie Lepley, County Extension Agent-Agriculture, said the program will be  presented by Dr. James Casey, agribusiness professor from the University of Louisiana in Monroe.

“He will give this presentation in time to allow participants to take advantage of credits for selling raised breeding stock via reduced capital gains taxation rate,” Lepley said.

Following the taxation information, beef producers will be presented an update on the marketing efforts currently under way from the Beef Checkoff. 

“Jason Bagley with the Texas Beef Council will lead this presentation and showcase the efforts being utilized to increase consumer awareness of the high quality products being produced by Texas beef producers,” Lepley said.

Individuals with a Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicators License will receive one hour of Laws & Regulations CEUs following a talk by Brad Tullis, TDA Pesticide Inspector. 

“To round out the program, ranchers will learn more about the Texas Animal Health Commissions new rules and regulations regarding selling bulls under the Trichomoniasis program presented by Dr. James Sprague,” Lepley said.

There is no charge for the program.
