45-item agenda faces court

A 45-item agenda faces the Walker County Commissioners Court when it meets at 9 a.m. today in a regular session at the courthouse, but 24 of the items are renewing bids and contracts.

The court is scheduled to discuss and take action on approving furnishings for the Walker County H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum of Texas, which will be completed in September.

The five-member court will also discuss and take action the county’s storm shelter issues and resolutions and possible changes to policy.

The court will discuss the proposed tax rate and take a record vote to place on the agenda of a future meeting as an action item a proposal to adopt a rate of $0.577, a rate that exceeds the effective tax rate of $0.557, and schedule two public hearings on the proposal.

The first public hearing will be held Aug. 24 and the second public hearing will be held Aug. 31.
