Huntsville native wins chance at ‘Top Model’

By Matthew Jackson

Huntsville native Sherell Baldwin recently won a chance to be the first girl in line to audition for America’s Next Top Model when the show holds its Houston casting call next month.

In June, Baldwin, 22, entered a competition sponsored by KIAH TV in Houston to be among the top three girls to audition for the show. Hundreds of women from the Houston area entered the competition, as visitors to the channel’s Web site voted for their favorite girl. After weeks of campaigning in Huntsville and beyond, Baldwin got news of a victory last Sunday.

“I was at home Sunday evening watching TV, and my mom walked up to me and told me that my friend and former manager called and she wanted me to call her back, so I did, and when I talked to her she was telling me that I was one of the top three,” Baldwin said. “I was shocked, so I got up and checked the Web site and not only was I the top three, I am number one. I cried, and cried, and cried all night.”

Baldwin said she was later contacted by a representative from the show to congratulate her and let her know her audition date.

“I am so happy and so ready to start this,” Baldwin said. “I’ve been working out, and going to the track with my trainer Karess Grant, who is helping me whip into shape and stay focused. I will finally meet Tyra Banks and the rest of the judges on Sept. 12. I really do appreciate everyone that has voted for me, because I couldn’t have done this by myself. I am honored and humble right now.”
