County considers online ticket payments
HUNTSVILLE — Walker County residents may soon have an a new option for paying for traffic violations, as county commissioners considered an agreement with TrafficPayment.com after a presentation from the group on Monday
According to its director of sales Leigh Sides, TrafficPayment.com operates in 30 states — including 22 counties and 51 cities in Texas.
It allows those with citations to look up and pay for traffic tickets on the Internet — paying the required amount with no additional fees charged.
“I think it is something worthwhile because there is no additional cost to the taxpayer,” Walker County judge Danny Pierce said. “It will increase the revenue stream and the timeliness of the payment. It will be easier on the payee to pay their traffic ticket.
“I just think it’s a win-win situation.”
Commissioners will make a final decision on the issue at a later meeting, after opinions on the program are gathered from justices of the peace. If approved, each court will have the option of deciding to utilize the online program.
