The Huntsville Unitarian Universalists will have the first service in their new church building located at 144 East Mosley Lane on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
The UU congregation previously met in the Laura Chapel at Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
In less than a year after the Huntsville UU Fellowship voted to build a church on a large wooded lot, Dr. Leonora Montgomery will present the inaugural sermon entitled “Touching Lives.”
The Rev. Montgomery notes that Valentine’s Day is all about love, and building a new church home is a labor of love.
Montgomery received her BA from Wellesley College and earned a doctorate of Religious Studies from Rice University.
She was ordained by the Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston in 1987 and she has served five UU churches in the Houston area.
She has served on the UUA President’s Council, the Roman Catholic Ecumenical Commission, and the Board of Meadville Lombard Theological School.
Although the building still needs some finishing touches, progress on the 3,000 square-foot church has exceeded expectations.
Lee Stringer spearheaded the construction of this pay-as-you-go project with help from volunteers and generous contributions from both this congregation and from outside the church.
Although the interior walls may not yet be painted by Sunday, the heating and air conditioning systems have been installed, and the congregation is offering you a warm invitation to attend the first service in the new facility.
The church is located at the end of East Mosley Lane, which is the street that goes east from state Highway 75 about half way between McCoy’s Building Supply and Southwood Drive.
