City names new engineer

Yellambalsi Ramachandra fills seven-month vacancy

HUNTSVILLE — The City of Huntsville announced this week that it has named Yellambalsi “Ram” Ramachandra as its new City Engineer.

A native of India, Ramachandra earned both a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1983 and a master’s degree in environmental engineering in 1986 from the University of Bangalore.

In 1993 he earned his second master’s degree, this one in civil engineering, from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.

Ramachandra has spent much of his professional life in the state of Oklahoma. His previous jobs include a project engineer position in Bartlesville, Okla. and several job titles in Lawton, Okla., including project engineer, project manager, traffic engineer and division administrator.

In Jan. 2010, he was named assistant city engineer in League City, a position he held until taking the Huntsville position.

He is a certified professional civil engineer in both Texas and Oklahoma, and is a certified flood plain manager.

Ramachandra replaces city engineer Glen Isbell, who departed the position in August of last year.

“I’m really excited to be here,” Ramachandra said. “I’ve worked in similar cities in pretty much all the aspects needed to work in development, including water, sewer, streets and traffic.”
