New Waverly ISD saw its best district-wide rating in history, receiving its first ever Recognized rating to match that received at three of its campuses.
The district’s high school, junior high and intermediate campuses shared the Recognized designation, with the elementary campus maintaining the Exemplary rating it earned in 2009.
“This is the biggest accolade for the district so far — receiving the district-wide Recognized rating is something that doesn’t happen very often,” NWISD Superintendent Dr. Clay Webb said. “I am extremely happy. I have already notified the board and they were elated as well.
“We are all just extremely pleased. This is something to celebrate and to be proud of,” he added. “It demonstrates the good performance by our students and teachers of this district.”
Webb also praised NWISD’s recently retired assistant superintendent Annette Nash, as well as all district teachers and administrators, for NWISD’s achievements on TAKS.
“We definitely need to credit Nash’s efforts for this accomplishment,” Webb said. “She did a great job in putting a process in place that would make sure every student had the opportunity to pass the TAKS test.
“This would not be possible without the huge efforts of everyone involved,” he continued. “It takes everyone working hard to make this happen.
“It is a good reminder us that, in addition to our other successes, academics are still extremely important to this district.”
