HUNTSVILLE — Hundreds of spring break travelers dropped by Huntsville this week to take a peek at Big Sam, the 67 foot tall statue of Sam Houston that graces the city's southern border just off I-45. City of Huntsville Director of Tourism Kimm Thomas said the statute was averaging between 400 and 700 visitors daily throughout the week, including visitors who had stopped after spotting the statue on the highway and visitors who planned to spend multiple days in Huntsville.
