Resignations accepted from loyal employees

Most people are truly concerned with the state of our nation’s economy and political situation.

I believe that we have pressing concerns right here in Huntsville. In the past few weeks, we have received resignations from a number of top quality people from key positions with the City of Huntsville.

As a quintessential volunteer, I have been involved with these people on numerous occasions, and always felt that we were blessed to have their capable talents in a city as small as Huntsville.

It is my belief that they have resigned only because they were literally “run out” by our current mayor and City Council.

Does it make any sense to you that our “leaders” have accepted resignations from these loyal employees?

Why should we replace these more than competent city servants (who all resided here) with “interim” employees from elsewhere for whom we are not only compensating with comparable salaries, but also reimbursing temporary housing expenses? Before you vote on May 9, ask why.

I will also address our mayor’s comment (upon receipt of City Secretary Stephanie Brim’s resignation) that he’d spent a great deal of time honing her skills by saying that I know Stephanie (and the mayor) and she has more skills in her little finger than he will ever possess.

There is also much discussion in Elkins Lake regarding the proposed “pilot” recycling program, which will also limit garbage pickup to once week.

When questioned, the mayor has responded that if residents are not in favor, they should just “not recycle.”

Excuse me? Not recycle?

I plan to continue to do exactly what I’ve done since we moved here – I will go to the City of Huntsville’s Recycling Center (funded by H-GAC grants) once a week. I feel it’s completely irresponsible to advise citizens not to recycle.

The future of our city is in the hands of the voter. We must know the candidates and their history, and elect responsible officials without private agendas who will commit to put the residents of Huntsville first and make the “greater good” of our community a priority.

Folks, we are in trouble. Give serious consideration to the wisdom of your votes.
