Hornet boys soccer opens season with W

Staff Reports

The season couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for the Huntsville boys varsity soccer team.

The Hornets faced a stiff challenge with a road game against A&M; Consolidated, a team that is no stranger to the Class 5A playoffs. Hugo Moncada scored a goal off a rebound to lift Huntsville to a 1-0 victory in the season opener.

“Consolidated is a team that every year they are expecting to be in the playoffs,” Hornets coach Robert Taylor said. “For us to come in and get this win, it is huge for our program. This is win ranks up there with the best ones we have had since I have been coaching here.”

That lone goal was all Huntsville needed thanks to the play of defenders Gerson Flores, Jacob Galvez, Adrian Juarez and Nelson Privado and goalkeeper David Robledo.

“David played really well at the end of last season and he has carried that over,” Taylor added. “With Gerson, Jacob, Adrian and Nelson out there, our defense is one of our weapons. It is great to have those guys on our side.”

The Hornets return to action with a 6 p.m. match against McKinney North at the Diadora Cup tournament in Brenham.
